Spring Term – Dinton Through Time
In the Spring term, we will focus on our local area, exploring what life was like in Dinton during the late 19th and early 20th century through the school’s logbooks. We will also be looking at the history of the Dinton Hermit and how this has shaped today’s Dinton and talking to some local villagers who will bring history alive by providing authentic personal stories.
In Art, the children will create mixed media landscapes using the local area as inspiration. While in Design and Technology, they will get creative with making Easter-related foods.
In Geography, during the second part of the term, the children will walk to Eythrope to take part in a river survey. They will learn how to test the water’s pH levels, flow speed and explore the local ecosystem.
As part of our exploration of worldviews and beliefs, Years 5 and 6 will have the exciting opportunity to take part in the Bedfordshire Faith Tour, visiting a Sikh Gurdwara, a Muslim Mosque, and a Christian Church in one day.
In English, Year 6 will dive into Skellig by David Almond. They will begin with writing a persuasive advert and then move onto writing a suspense narrative.
For Science, the children will be learning about light in the first half term and then will cover Living Things and Their Habitats in the second half term.
PE will be on a Monday and Friday. Full PE kit should be in school for these days. We will continue to have PE outside on a Monday so please ensure your child has: tracksuit bottoms, a navy PE sweatshirt (no hood), appropriate trainers and spare socks.
Homework is assigned every Friday and due the following Thursday. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 who do not complete their homework will be required to finish it during Friday lunchtime. Reading records are checked on Thursdays. Please continue reading with your child regularly to support academic progress and foster a lifelong love of learning.
We look forward to an exciting term and thank you for your continued support.
