Summer Term – Mountains High, Valleys Low

Dear Parents, Carers and year 6 children,
Our topic this term is Mountains High, Valleys Low and we will be focusing on how mountains are formed, where there are mountains and the features of these mountains. It is, of course, a term of change for the children as we proceed towards Secondary School and we will be continuing our transfer work to support the children in the transition.
We will be preparing for SATs in English by revision lessons about grammar and punctuation, creative writing pieces and reading comprehension skills. In Maths, the children will be exploring statistics, angles in shapes and reflection and translation of shapes in a grid. This will be supported by revision tasks to embed learning. The class will spend the afternoons looking at typography in Art, the Hajj in Religious Education and Evolution and inheritance in Science as well as PE.
We are delighted that the children will continue to have PE with Mr McGeeney on a Wednesday afternoon and will have Cricket on a Friday afternoon for the first half term. Please bring in PE bags on a Monday and include jumpers, socks and trousers as the British weather is always unpredictable.
Please ensure that your child brings in a clean water bottle daily, filled with water and that, when the weather improves, you provide a sunhat and a pre-school daily covering of suntan lotion.
After the SATs, the children will take part in the Fiver challenge, go on residential to Derbyshire, take part in SRE lessons and conduct a river survey in Eythrope. The children will be working on their yearbook page and reflecting on their time here.
Homework this term will continue to be Edshed spellings and Maths shed tasks with additional tasks in the lead up to SATs and concentrating on the fiver challenge after SATS, with Learning log homeworks for particular tasks.
Please encourage your children to read on a daily basis.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Mrs Reed
