Summer Term – Castles

This term, the children will be visiting the past to discover all about castles. They will be inspired by a trip to Warwick Castle where they will be able to explore more than 1100 years of history. In school, they will learn about the architecture of castles, why they were built in certain positions, what life might have been like living in a castle and some famous royals who have lived in castles. For DT, they will be designing, making and testing trebuchets. In English, the children will be reading the enchanting Tell Me a Dragon and The Dragon Snatcher to inspire their writing. They will be writing a newspaper report about a dragon spotted in the area as well as a narrative based on the George and the Dragon story. The children will even try out their persuasive letter writing skills to persuade Mrs Wilde to let the school have a pet dragon!   In art, they will be looking at creating expressive paintings inspired by the artists: Marela Zacarias, Charlie French, Vincent Van Gogh and Cezanne.

Summer term sees the children looking at Plants and learning how seeds and bulbs grow and what plants need in order to grow and stay healthy. The children will be designing their own investigating and observing their results over the term.

PE will continue to be taught by Exposure Sport on a Friday. Wednesday’s PE session will be taught by Mrs Bowman. Please ensure your child has the correct PE in school at all times. We will be aiming to have PE outside so please check your child’s trainers.

Homework will continue to be set on a Friday – this will be Spellings and Maths. Please remind your child to complete each set piece as it helps consolidate work done in class and sets up good habits for learning. In addition to the work on Spelling/Maths Shed, the children should be reading at home at least 3 or 4 times a week.

I look forward to a fun-filled Summer term.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Bowman
