As part of Year 5 and 6’s ‘Shakespeare’ topic the classes were inspired by a trip to the Shakespeare Globe theatre, London.  We tiptoed through our guided tour of the theatre, as actors were busy rehearsing ‘A Midsummers Nights Dream’ on the stage- it was fascinating to see the actors being interrupted by the director, asking them to repeat lines in a certain way.  Following this each class enjoyed an acting workshop with a professional actor; we learnt about the rhythm of Shakespeare line and the importance of hand gesturing.  Pairs of children read an extract from Macbeth, some even performed to the group.  After a lunch with a view there was a little time to explore the Tate Modern gallery, where some inspiration was gathered for a dramatic backdrop for ‘Shakespeare on Trial’.
