On 5th October 2022, year 5 and 6 excitedly traveled to St Albans Verulanium Roman museum.  On the trip there were many fascinating artifacts we were allowed to handle: from bones to pottery fragments and an actual Roman 2000 year-old mosaic.

We walked to see the hypocaust, a Roman underfloor heating system, found in the park away from the main museum  We learnt even the walls were heated through this system!  Covering the floor was a beautiful mosaic made of tesserae.

In the main museum, there were different rooms each containing a topic from ‘Death and Burial’ to ‘Food and Farming’.  In ‘Death and Burial’ we saw skeletons, glass artifacts and grave goods of jewellery.  Whilst ‘Food and Farming’ was about farming tools and evidence of Roman foods.

We really enjoyed the experience and want to visit again!
