As part of  year five’s forces science topic, we had great fun exploring the concept of water resistance. Our investigation began by exploring which objects would sink or float in water, following this we moved on to our big question: How does the shape of the bow on a boat effect how it moves across water?

Everyone attempted to create the most practical boat; including adding an extra lifeboat. After testing various shapes, including a rectangle, cone and square.  We found that the most streamlined was the cone shape which glided across the water in a matter of seconds!  We had plenty of fun testing our creations and look forward to investigating more force soon.
