We celebrated Chinese New Year before half term. We looked at the story of how the years were named and why and found out which year the children were born in. We looked at Dragon boat racing, lighting lanterns, Dragon dancing and the food the Chinese eat to celebrate. We also learned about the tradition of the older generation giving the younger ones a red envelope with money for luck for the coming year and learned a song about how everyone prepares and celebrates the new year. We did different crafts throughout the day: from painting Chinese numbers, making paper chain dragons, creating colourful paper dragons, tracing numbers and letters. Welcome to the year of the dog!
