Autumn term – The Tudors

Throughout the year, we will be working closely with Year 3 in our exciting topic of the Tudors giving the children responsibility in supporting their younger peers. For guided reading this term, we will be reading the ‘The Tale of Angelino Brown’ by David Almond if possible could you please purchase the book to bring in to school for the term for sole use of your child.  In Science this term, we will be discovering how sound is created and how it travels to our ears. Our topic in RE will be expanding the children’s understanding of the Hindu faith; exploring how Hindus express their beliefs through images of deities and symbols.

One of our key focuses in Year 4 is learning times tables. We will be using ‘Times Table Rock Stars’ in class to help support learning of all the times tables up to 12 X 12. Like My Maths, children can access their accounts at home.  We would recommend practising these as much as possible, in addition to their regular homework.

Important things to remember:

Monday – PE kit into school (PE lesson Monday and Tuesday afternoon)

Wednesday – Learning log’s in.

Thursday – Learning Log /My Maths set. We will be setting Learning Log projects every other week with My Maths on the alternate week. (Learning Logs will be kept in school for the week of My Maths homework, so please make sure you have a copy of each child’s unique My Maths and TT rockstars login at home.)

Everyday items include water bottles and fruit or vegetables for morning playtime.

Reading Books – In year 4, each child will have two reading books, one to be kept in school at all times and one to be sent home. They will be able to change their reading book on a Tuesday or Thursday. Please do not send the home reading book on any other day.

We ask that you read with your child as much as possible.  Please make use of the guided reading questions in the pamphlet sent home-  to support discussion with an aim to increase a depth of understanding and inference within the text.
